conductor
Mark Messenger is rapidly establishing an enviable reputation not only as an
inspirational and dynamic Youth Orchestra conductor, but also
as a deeply intelligent and thoughtful interpreter of the major symphonic
repertoire. His performances of the romantic masterpieces have been described as
“inspirational”.
However, he is equally in demand as a mainstream symphonic conductor or working
in other genres, most recently appearing with Symphonic Queen.
In January 2001, he was appointed conductor of the Essex Young People’s
orchestra. Since then, he has instigated a policy of inviting international
artistes to perform with the orchestra in major concerti. Recently their
repertoire has included Elgar’s cello concerto and Enigma Variations, symphonies
by Dvorak and Sibelius, Scheherezade by Rimsky-Korsakoff, Shostakovich 2nd piano
concerto and violin concertos by Bruch and Saint-Saens.
For
2005, Essex Young People’s Orchestra have been invited back
for the fourth time to present the
New Year’s Day concert at Chelmsford Cathedral after the phenomenal success of
this concerts last January.
